![]() The story begins with a Connecticut clockmaker named Charles Stahlberg getting a patent for a new alarm clock design in 1885. is even more impressive considering the company didn’t have all the resources of an established, major metropolis to draw from. In some respects, the early rise of the Western Clock MFG Co. wasn’t born in Chicago or headquartered here, the immediate aftershocks of the company’s cultural and industrial impact certainly reached our shores in a hurry, no interstate required. Above all else, though, the rise and fall of Westclox-and the deeper history of these Big Ben clocks, in particular-is simply far too intriguing to dismiss just because of a long-distance commute. Well, the company certainly maintained some major salesrooms here, and many of their employees came from the city and its suburbs. ![]() So, does Westclox really belong in the Made In Chicago Museum? Even today, with the considerable help of a thing called Interstate 80, it’s still about a two-hour journey from LaSalle Street to LaSalle County. My module (same part number as that in the pics below) was cracked in a couple places and reception was non-existant unless I pressed on the module. I found the same issue on my 04 A4 1.8TQ w/130k on the clock. This is a super old thread, but wanted to share a bit of my experience with replacing this module. I'll do a write up once my car comes back from the shop and I can confirm it works. I recently purchased a new antenna w/ adapter on Ebay. I am hoping I can fix this my self, buy an amp second hand somewhere but not sure how to go about (nothing on ebay). Also, I tried to do the same with the AM turned on, but there was no changes to the reception.Īnyone know what the issue could be? I called Audi Canada today and they want $345 for the amp (if amp is what needs to be changed) plus 50 dollars to inspect plus install fee. I took the amplifier out last night and when I was putting it back in (flexing it a bit) it seemed to give me a little better reception (seemed like a contact issue?) but I still couldn't pin point the issue. In searching the forums it appears to be this is a common issue among Audi, and most of the issues point to the internal Antenna Amplifier that is attached to the rear window. Unfortunately, the fix is a new antenna amp, which from the dealer is 250. The antenna amp is located at the top of the rear window, behind the plastic trim (which just prys off). I cannot get any channels on AM at all and the FM is very scratchy. My AM radio reception dropped off considerably when the antenna amplifier failed on my 2002 A4. The reception on the radio has gone really bad recently. There are some plastic tabs on the bottom edge which align with holes on the platform behind the rear seats.I own a 2002 Audi A4 3.0. Some metal snaps disengaged and I was able to pivot the D pillar cover forward. I was able to pull off the D pillar by grapping it with my fingers at the top and pulling gently. When you remove the D pillar cover, be careful because there is an airbag in the there that you do not want to damage or trigger. They travel down the D pillar into the trunk area. There are two coax outputs, one yellow and one white. There is a blue coax input that comes from the sharkfin roof antenna, a lead with a couple of wires coming from the rear window antenna grid, and another lead also to the rear window grid. The B7 Phase Diversity antenna input on the Sym II+ radio is via two separate antenna leads from the Phase Diversity antenna booster. Under the D pillar on the driver side, you will find an antenna amplifier (aka antenna booster). The poor FM reception of the B7 radio installed in the B6 is due to a mismatch between the B7 Phase Diversity antenna used with the B7 and the Switching Diversity antenna booster module installed in B6 A4s. There are also some on the passenger side top, but on my model (A4 B8 Premium Plus without NAV), the passenger side antenna leads off the rear window are unconnected. Some of the on-glass wires at the driver side top are for the radio antenna. First off the problem is the antenna amplifier rubber separating from the board. with a little twist. This was more of a process for me, but in the end I have near perfect radio reception and key fob reception. The GPS/NAV and SAT antennas are in the roof-top sharkfin. I know there are multiple threads on here already about some of this, but decided to this anyway. I replaced the antenna booster and my AM radio reception returned. This indicated to me that something was wrong (probably circuit board cracking) with the antenna booster. I exposed it and pressed around on it while set to AM, and the station came in and out. I did a little research and concluded that the antenna amplifier under the D pillar was probably bad. If I increased the volume up very loud while set to AM, I could hear the station faintly and with a lot of static.
